Description Disc 1 · 2011
8-9 cm. The male has a straight coral red bill with a black tip; forehead, crown, cheeks, throat bluish green; upperparts golden green, becoming red-copperish towards rump; chin feathers basally white, sides of neck and lower throat blue, belly gray, flanks golden green; uppertail coverts deep copper to purple, undertail coverts dark bronze-green to copperish; tail steel blue.
The female lacks the violet-blue head and throat; upperparts lighter golden green; a less contrasting rump; the center of underparts gray; undertail coverts white, the outer rectrices with a gray terminal band.
The immature's head and and throat are partially blue-green; belly gray; undertail converts dark gray.
