Description Disc 1 · 2011
The male, 9.5-10.5 cm, has a short straight bill, upper and lower mandibles red tipped black; crown and forehead bronze-green; upperparts gold-green; uppertail coverts grass green; belly iridescent bronze to bronze-green, changing to blue geen on the throat and upper breast; tail is slightly forked, dark steely blue.
The female is 7.5-8.5 cm with the black tip extending to the middle of the bill; forehead, crown and upperparts slightly golden green; streak behind the eye grayish white; uppertail coverts grass green; underparts whitish changing to pale brownish gray on breast and belly; tail slightly forked, the rectrices basally green and distally blue; the outer rectrices are all steel-blue with pale gray V-shaped tips.
The immature is similar to the adult female.

Common in scrub, savannah, grassland, parks and gardens, forest borders. Sea level to 3500 meters.

Throughout but generally avoids the coastal regions. However, recorded in Estado São Paulo close to the coast from Bananal, São Jose do Barreiro, Arapei, Capao Bonito, Itapirapua, PE Carlos Botelho (119).
