Description Disc 1 (2011)

The male, 9.5-10.5 cm, has a short straight bill, upper and lower mandibles red tipped black: crown and forehead bronze-green: upperparts gold-green: uppertail coverts grass green: belly iridescent bronze to bronze-green, changing to blue geen on the throat and upper breast: tail is slightly forked, dark steely blue.<nThe female is 7.5-8.5 cm with the black tip extending to the middle of the bill: forehead, crown and upperparts slightly golden green: streak behind the eye grayish white: uppertail coverts grass green: underparts whitish changing to pale brownish gray on breast and belly: tail slightly forked, the rectrices basally green and distally blue: the outer rectrices are all steel-blue with pale gray V-shaped tips.<nThe immature is similar to the adult female.

Very highly pitched zi...zi...zi...zi...zi... and a faster titititititititi ,, zirrrr...zirrrr... zirrrrr... .

Behavior Disc 1 (2011)

Feeds by trap-lining on flowering trees such as Tabebuia, eucalyptus and Jacaranda.

August - November.

Habitat and status Disc 1 (2011)

Common in scrub, savannah, grassland, parks and gardens, forest borders. Sea level to 3500 meters.

Distribution Disc 1 (2011)

Throughout but generally avoids the coastal regions. However, recorded in Estado S<C4>o Paulo close to the coast from <8E>Bananal, S<C4>o Jose do Barreiro, Arapei, Capao Bonito, Itapirapua, PE Carlos Botelho ^119 .
