Description Disc 1 (2011)

8.5-9 cm. Black bill straight and short. The male has a very long crest of thin pointed glittering green feathers, the longest ones black: crown glittering green: back shining green: spot behind the eye white: subocular region, sides of neck and breast gray: central underparts mostly glistening purple blue: central tail feathers shining green, the rest basally bronze green, black distally, tipped white.<nThe female"s upperparts and central tail feathers are shining green, the outer tail feathers mostly black with pale tips: underside gray.

Habitat and status Disc 1 (2011)

Common in the understory of open forest, scrub and along brooks. In summer at high altitudes 900 - 2000 meters.

In Estado Rio de Janeiro reported from the <8E>Serra Mantiqueira, Serra dos Org<C4>os, Nova Friburgo. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo reported from <8E>Fazenda Intervales, Campos do Jordao, Serra Bocaina, Pico tres Estados, Arapei ^119 .
