Description Disc 1 (2011)

15-17 cm. A large agressive hummingbird with a slightly curved black bill: head, throat and breast deep violet blue: upperparts and underparts blue green or shining bronzy green: blue tail deeply forked, 7-9 cm.<nThe female is duller.

Call tsisi repeatedly, song weak zi..zi..zi..ze..zi .

Behavior Disc 1 (2011)

Stationary. Defends nectar-rich sources, also hawks for insects.

Habitat and status Disc 1 (2011)

Common in open shrubby savannah, open forest, gardens, parks and plantations, forest edge. Sea level to 1500 meters.
