Description Disc 1 (2011)

25-30 cm. Upperpart rufous, streaked blackish: nuchal collar tawny buff: lesser wing coverts dark brown speckled rufous or tawny, the rest of the wing coverts rufescent brown speckled rufous and buff and spotted blackish: scapulars spotted dark brown: a narrow white band around the lower throat: underside rufous brown, barred brown, speckled and spotted cinnamon, buff and white becoming buff barred on the undertail coverts: the male has a large white spot on inner web of the three outermost tail rectrices and the outer webs are tawny with black bars, the female lacks the white spots: iris dark brown.

Nocturnal song a loud chuckquiquiquiu with emphasis on the last syllable.

Forages by hawking insects from a perch.

Uncommon in dry forests, second growth forest, thickets in caatinga, parks and gardens.

Throughout inland, rarely coastal forests. In Estado reported from <8E>S<C4>o Paulo, Santa Lucia, Santana, Barreiro Rico, Aguas de Santa Clara, Jeriquara, Vista Bonita, Fazenda Colorado, Magda, Araba, Mirassolandia, Novo Canaa, Nova Granada, Suzanopolis ^119 .
