Description Disc 1 · 2011
45-55 cm. The largest potoo, variable with regard to coloration, ranging from buffy-brown to nearly white; upperparts and wing coverts grayish-white, speckled and mottled black, brown, tawny and buff; throat buff; underparts grayish-white, barred and speckled buff, brown and blackish, becoming buff; whitish, barred brown on the belly and flanks. At night displays a reddish-orange eye reflection.

Nocturnal. Roosts during day upright and motionless at the end of a branch. Flies with slown, deep wing beats. Forages from a perch 1-2 meters above ground to top of large tree to catch large moths etc.

Rare. Formerly in gallery forests in the interior of Estado São Paulo.
