Description Disc 1 (2011)

36 cm. The adult is brown above with scaly feathers, a short chestnut crest, a white superciliary and a long graduated tail with a white tip: white below, the breast whitish buff with dark streaks: eye ring yellow green: iris brown to yellow: mandible black, maxilla pale: feet grayish brown.<nThe immature is sooty brown, finely spotted with buff on a black crown: wing coverts and upper tail coverts with round buff apical spots: flight feathers terminally buff, breast buff.

Song a siii...siiii...werrrrr... , final note quavering, also a four-note call like sah,,see.. si..seee ^119 .

Forages flying from tree to tree in subcanopy or dense underground scub.

Habitat and status Disc 1 (2011)

Rare in humid forest, scrub, thickets, tangled secondary forest with dense undergrowth, seasonally inundated forest. Sea level to 1600 meters.

Distribution Disc 1 (2011)

Throughout, formerly encountered inland in gallery forests, no recent records. Still occurs at Iguazu Falls in Argentina ^119 .
