Description Disc 1 · 2011
14.5-16.5 cm. The adult's top of head is chestnut becoming reddish olive brown on the back and wing coverts; rump, tail and inner remiges darker brown; primaries ashy brown; sides of the head, neck and breast rufous; throat to abdomen white; flanks strongly barred black and white; undertail coverts black, the lateral feathers white; bill greenish, yellow at the base; feet red.

To hear vocalizations listen to the excellent DVD by Jeremy Minns "Aves do Brasil" (192). It is very difficult to differentiate the song of this species from that of Laterallus melanophaius, but it is shorter.
