Description Disc 1 (2011)

14.5-16.5 cm. The adult"s top of head is chestnut becoming reddish olive brown on the back and wing coverts: rump, tail and inner remiges darker brown: primaries ashy brown: sides of the head, neck and breast rufous: throat to abdomen white: flanks strongly barred black and white: undertail coverts black, the lateral feathers white: bill greenish, yellow at the base: feet red.

To hear vocalizations listen to the excellent DVD by Jeremy Minns Aves do Brasil ^192 . It is very difficult to differentiate the song of this species from that of /Laterallus melanophaius , but it is shorter.

A rusty neck, completely white underside and restricted black and white barring on sides of belly distinguish this little rail from others.
