Collared Forest-Falcon

The adult light phase is black above, white below: remiges boldly barred fuscous and white: a black crescent on the side of the head: a white nuchal collar: upper tail coverts spotted or broadly barred with white: long tail white tipped and with five white bands.<nThe tawny phase has tawny buff to cinnamon buff underparts: nuchal collar sometimes buffy.<nThe rare dark phase is brownish black to slate: rump, sides and abdomen barred with white: tail bands grayish: nuchal collar lacking: iris brown: bare skin of face, cere and gape green: bill black: legs yellow.<nThe immature is variable, the differences probably representing progressive molts: upperparts deep fuscous brown, the crown and tail black: nuchal collar brown, obscure and often missing: feathers of back, wings, and upper tail coverts tippend or barred with rufous: tail bars brownish: underparts either white or cinnamon buff, the breast strongly tinged dull rufous and the entire ventral parts heavily barred with brown.
