Description Disc 1 · 2011
51-58 cm. A small eagle with a medium-long tail. The adult has a short, bushy crest; head, neck and underside white; the feathers of crest are broadly tipped with black forming a prominent patch on the posterior half of the crown; lores and circumorbital area black; upperparts black, remiges deep sooty brown with a white basal margin on inner webs; secondaries with white tips; tail grayish brown, narrowly tipped with white and with four black bands; iris orange yellow; cere, gape and base of bill bright orange, rest of bill black; toes bright yellow.
The immature has black upper parts, mixed with brownish gray; lesser and middle wing coverts tipped with white.
