Description Disc 1 · 2011
45.5-49.5 cm. The adult's entire head and hindneck are whitish to creamy buff, the dorsal parts marked with blackish shaft streaks; a black crescent on lower throat; above and below brownish rufous, paler and more buff on chest and undertail coverts; back, scapulars and wing coverts sparsely marked with black shaft streaks; primaries and outer secondaries black; inner secondaries and tertials black-tipped and extensively rufous on the inner webs; tail short, black, tipped whitish and with rufous barring towards base; iris reddish brown; orbits and gape dark slate; cere and bill black; feet pale flesh colored.
The immature's head and and hind neck are similar to the adult, but more heavily streaked with fuscous; upperside fuscous brown spotted and barred with rufous; black primaries, tail coverts above and below tawny ochraceous barred fuscous; tail barred black and rufous basally, the termial third black narrowly tipped whitish; underside creamy buff, heavily striped fuscous; abdomen sooty brown, tibiae dull rufous narrowly barred fuscous.
