Description Disc 1 · 2011
24 - 27.5 cm. A small accipiter. The male's upperparts are plumbeous black with the sides of the head, hindneck and upper back paler; four black tail bars; underside white, finely barred with slate gray; under wing coverts and flight feathers barred with fuscous; iris red; bill black; feet yellow.
The female's upper parts are browner, underside buffish.
Immature dark phase is fuscous black above, underside buff, barred brownish.
Immature rufous phase has a rufous crown, back and wings chestnut patterned with black; tail rufous, with 6 - 8 black bars, underparts tawny heavily barred with rufous.
