Description Disc 1 (2011)

34.0 - 37.5 cm. A long winged, medium sized dark gray hawk of the forest. Adult"s head and undersides gray, upperside glossy dark plumbeous gray: circumocular region and lores black: primaries extensively rufous: tail black with two white bars: iris red: cere dusky gray: bill black: legs orange.<nIn the immature the feathers of the head, neck and underside are edged with white appearing streaked with dusky: upper side black, feathers of back, scapulars and wing coverts tipped with white: primaries and secondaries tipped white, the inner webs of primaries rufous: tail black with three white bars.

Forages by flying through the canopy. Soars over forests and forest edge and also hunts from a perch.

Rare in forests of the interior.

Throughout. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo occurs close to the coast. Observed at <8E>Fazenda Intervales ^119 .
