Description Disc 1 (2011)

18.0 - 19.5 cm. A small tinamou, with variable coloration: upper side rufous vermiculated with black: underparts buff, neck buff, feathers with black shaft streaks: feet yellowish.

Thin, high whistles, sometimes drawn out.

Lives in open campo with dense grass: not in areas with introduced grass species.

Rare or locally common in open cerrados, e. g. in the Serra da Canastra.

Distribution Disc 1 (2011)

Extralimital, has occurred formerly at <8E>Broa, Estado S<C4>o Paulo Willis and occurs in the Estacao Experimental de <8E>Itapetininga http.<10><10>iflorestsp.br<10>body.htm near <8E>Aracoiaba da Serra<8E> west of <8E>Sorocaba.
