Description Disc 1 (2011)

25 - 30 cm. Crown and nape black, sides of head and throat gray, body rufous, back dark vermiculated: belly lighter rufous than back, flanks, abdomen and crissum with dark bars. Iris yellow, feet olive gray. The juvenile is like the adult, but the back and wings have minute back and buff spotting: underparts barred black.

10 to 40 ascending shrill whistles. The pauses between the whistles become shorter at the end of the whole sequence..

Forages on the ground in dense forest.

Primary and secondary forests with dense understorey, scrub.
