24 cm. A slender blackbird with a long tail and long pointed bill. Adults black with a scarlet-red head, neck and upper breast. <NThe juvenile is brownish-black with reddish feathers on the head. Song "Cleer cleer clur", "clululu", "tchak". Forages in reed beds. Often sings exposed from reed stem. Extralimital. Confined to reed beds. In 1984 reported near<8E>Presidente Prudente<8E>in extreme SW Estado de S<C4>o Paulo: also inland in Estado S<C4>o Paulo near<8E>S<C4>o Pedro<8E>close to<8E>Piracicaba<8E> and<8E>Sertaozinho<8E>near <8E>Riberao Preto. ^119 .
