The account

Description

24 cm. A slender blackbird with a long tail and long pointed bill. Adults black with a scarlet-red head, neck and upper breast.

The juvenile is brownish-black with reddish feathers on the head.

Behavior

Forages in reed beds. Often sings exposed from reed stem.

Habitat and status

Extralimital. Confined to reed beds.

Distribution

In 1984 reported near Presidente Prudente in extreme SW Estado de São Paulo; also inland in Estado São Paulo near São Pedro close to Piracicaba and Sertaozinho near Riberao Preto. (¹¹⁹). To be expected as a straggler in marshland. To 3300 meters in Bolivia (¹³³).
