Male 46-48 cm, female 36-38 cm. A large long billed Oropendola, black all over with rusty color restricted to the rump and crissum. Tail with the exception of the central feathers bright yellow. Bill ivory yellow or greenish. Iris bluish. Call "chak", fast "chachachacha.." Song is an accelerating gurgling sequence of calls that increase in frequency at the end. The song in vocalization 3 recorded south of Pocone in the Pantanal might be the song of /Psarocolius bifasciatus which was observed in the NW of the Pantanal in forested areas ^114 . Forages in small groups in canopy of high trees, sometimes at fruit-bearing low bushes. Sometimes beats wings right after the song. Nests are about a meter long, pendulous, usually in a free standing tree at the forest border. Not uncommon in humid coastal land in secondary forest and forest edge, cultivated areas with some tall trees, forest edge. Inland in dry forest and forest edge. Throughout.
