20.5 cm. A large arboreal finch of forested areas. Sides of head gray. Short white superciliary stripe. White chin, bordered below by a buff spot, both bordered by a black malar stripe. Upperparts bright olive green. Underparts light gray with a buff center of belly. Crissum cinnamon buff. Call "tsic", "tsip". "Ting ting ting" ^121 . Song a short melodious warble "ti lu io" and similar strophes vocalizations 1-3 . Forages in high bushes and trees, in pairs and single. Estado Rio de Janeiro only. Not uncommon in forested regions at forest edge and clearings with bushes, and the canopy of tall trees. Estado Rio de Janeiro.
