14-15 cm. Slightly crested head gray with black stripes. Rufous collar on hind neck. Upperparts brown with black streaks. Underparts white, with black patch on sides of chest. <NJuvenile duller, the chest and belly with dusky stripes. Call "tik" Vocalizations 1 and 2 , song variable, long whistles repeated " ziu zi ziu ziu ziu and similar vocalizations 3 and 4 . Forages on the ground in open country in pairs and small groups. Tame. Common in open country, suburbs, agricultural land, borders of swamps, cerrado. Avoids rain forest. Common throughout.
