11.5-12.5 cm. Male has yellow lores. Crown streaked. Brown-olive upperparts with darker streaks. Rump yellow olive. Flight feathers brown with buffy edges. underparts bright yellow with an olive tinge on the breast. <NThe female is browner above with a buffy chest and a yellow belly. Call a repeated "zip". Song a sequence of 21 zip"s in 4.1 sec followed by 9 "trrriim" in 6.4 sec ^119 . Feeds mostly on the ground. Often found in large flocks. Irregular in tall grass areas, fields and borders of marshy areas. A winter visitor throughout. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo old data from<8E>Ipiranga ^40 .
