The account
Description
11.5-12.5 cm. Male has yellow lores. Crown streaked. Brown-olive upperparts with darker streaks. Rump yellow olive. Flight feathers brown with buffy edges. underparts bright yellow with an olive tinge on the breast.
The female is browner above with a buffy chest and a yellow belly.

Voice
Call a repeated 'zip'. Song a sequence of 21 zip's in 4.1 sec followed by 9 'trrriim' in 6.4 sec (119).
Behavior
Feeds mostly on the ground. Often found in large flocks.
Habitat and status
Irregular in tall grass areas, fields and borders of marshy areas.
Distribution
A winter visitor throughout. In Estado São Paulo old data from Ipiranga (40).
Taxonomy notes
Two species might be involved: luteola in the lowlands of Northern South America, and luteiventris in the lowlands of Southern South America (133).
