11.5-12.0 cm. Bill blackish gray, gape yellow-pink. Male is sooty gray, the back tinged olive, the underparts lighter. <The female is dull olive-sooty-brown, lighter below. Call unreported. Song a short warble of 5-7 notes lasting 0.8 sec. Frequency between 5000 and 10 000 Hz. Forages in trees Eucalyptus , bamboo, high grass and shrub. Uncommon in open areas with single trees, borders of forest remnants, gardens and parks, suburbs. Throughout. Widely distributed inland, closer to the coast at<8E>Guarau, Serra Itatins near <8E>Peruibe, Itirapua ^119 . In Estado Rio de Janeiro found at<8E>Barra da Tijuca G.
