12.5 cm. Male shining slaty blue, the face, throat and chest darker. Underwings white. <NThe female is tawny-rufous above, paler below. Call "zic" vocalization 2 . Song a short warble of 6-8 notes lasting 1.0 sec "swe swe si swe si swe si swe", frequency between 3000-5000 Hz vocalizations 1 and 3 . Forages at all levels in bamboo forest, often close to the ground and inside of bamboo thickets. Seems to deliver its song from a high perch. Usually in pairs. Rare in humid forest with plenty of bamboo, sometimes forest border. Throughout. More common in the South of the region, e.g. at<8E>Mogi Guacu ^119 , Serra dos Org<C4>os Mike Catsis unpubl. , Itatiaia Remold unpubl. . Old records from Estado S<C4>o Paulo are from<8E>Campinas, and from Estado Rio de Janeiro, Teresopolis ^40 .
