12.5 cm. Bill dark with a flesh colored base. Legs flesh colored. The male is turquoise blue with black lores, mantle, wings, tail and throat patch. The wing feathers are edged blue. <NThe female is bright green, lighter below. Head bluish. Throat gray. <NJuveniles lack the blue head and are green with a yellowish belly ^119 . Call a high pitched "tsit", a moderate pitched, harsh "chit", "chit-o-chit" vocalization 1 . Pairs or small groups forage in canopy of trees for insects in tit-like fashion, gleaning insects from leaves, flowers, branches, buds, and bromeliads. Also takes fruits and nectar. Para December ^159 . Not uncommon in primary and secondary forest and edge, dry forests of the interior, old plantations, trees and bushes in semiopen habitat, parks in cities.
