14 cm. Upper side black with the lower back and rump opalescent a light yellow-straw color. Forehead, head sides, throat and upper tail coverts deep blue. The area between the forehead and the crown straw yellow. Breast and flanks silvery gray spotted black, most pronounced across the throat. Center of belly and crissum chestnut. Shoulders purplish blue. Tail and wings black with blue feather edges. Call a high pitched "tsst" repeated randomly ^159 . Pairs and small groups, sometimes in mixed flocks, forage in canopy of trees. Occasionally comes down to fruiting bushes. Rare in primary and secondary tall forest and forest edge, plantations and clearings with tall trees. Northern Estado Rio de Janeiro. Below 500 meters ^133 . 11484 Calls. August 28, 1990.
