13 cm. Black forehead and violet blue crown separated by a narrow pale blue band. Periocular region pale blue. Cheeks and broad nuchal collar scarlet. Throat violet blue. Scapulars and upper back black. Lower back and rump bright green. Wings and tail black, the feathers edged green, the lesser wing coverts tipped orange yellow forming a narrow band. Underparts bright green. <NThe female is duller. High "zit" notes. In pairs or small groups foraging in the canopy of trees. Deep cup nest. Relatively common in primary and secondary humid forest, parks, forest edge and caatinga. Throughout in the coastal forest zone. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo found at <8E>Pariquera Acu, Icapara, Sete Barras, Cananeia, Anchieta, Boraceia, Ubatuba, PE Carlos Botelho, Fazenda Intervales, PE Jacupiranga ^119 .
