14 cm. Black above with a cobalt blue forecrown, shoulders, face, and rump. Black ring around the base of the bill. Underside cobalt blue, the black bases of breast feathers giving a scaled appearance of the chest: center of breast, belly and undertail covers yellow. Call a repeated high pitched "stri", tsick ^159 . Forages at all levels in trees in groups of 3-7 individuals. Para November ^159 . Uncommon in open forest and secondary woodland, parks and tall second growth. Coastal areas of Estado Rio de Janeiro. Observed at<8E>Nova Friburgo ^119 , Teresopolis ^162 .
