Yellow-backed Tanager

13-13.5 cm. Warbler-like. Male black above. Lower back and rump yellow. Wings with a white speculum. Throat and crissum yellow, the rest of underparts whitish, scaled black on the flanks and chest. Upper bill black, lower bill pinkish yellow. <NThe female is olive-brown above. Wings darker with broad yellow-olive edges to the primaries, secondaries and wing coverts. Yellow below, most pronounced on throat and breast, and grayish on flanks. Most common call a high "zik", also "zek". Song a high "si si si si si.... ^121 . Various modifications of the "zik" call are heard on vocalization 2, second part of the cut. Forages in the canopy of trees, often with mixed bird flocks. Uncommon in primary and secondary forest and edge, open dryer forest, parks and gardens. Observed in the months of May, July and November ^53 .
