How the map was made
The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.

Voice
Call 'tchak', songs usually performed simultaneously by two or three participants are loud, melodious duets starting with a rattling staccato of the first partner which slows down after 1 second and is then overlaid by repeated 'tu-wee-tu' strophes of the second partner. (Vocalization # 1 and picture 2 ). The songs sometimes accelerate or decelerate for 0.5 s. These duets are of various durations as can be heard in vocalization #1. A dawnsong consists of a 10-15 fold repetition of three or two notes (119).
Behavior
Forages in groups in low trees and on the ground, often in mixed parties.
Breeding
Cup nests in trees. September-November (159); uses helpers to rear young.
Habitat and status
Not uncommon inland in caatinga and scrubby fields with single trees.
Distribution
Throughout the inland areas,e.g. Itirapina, Conde do Pinhal, and approaches the coast in Estado São Paulo at Santana and Itapetininga (119). Older records in Estado Sao Paulo are from Itararé, Itu, Sorocaba, Paraciacaba (60 km NW of Campinas) (40). A pair of tanagers observed between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo on June 11, 1952 must have been this species (53). To 1100 meters (133).
