16 cm. A distinctive Cerrado tanager. Adult gray above with a black mask and ear coverts. Brownish wings and tail. Lesser wing coverts with white band. Below whitish gray, pure white in center of belly. <NImmature is more brownish above, yellowish white below. Call, a "ti...ti.." Dawn song according to Willis ^119 a sequence of paired notes "tiser...tichur..siher..." .Day song according to Willis delivered in flight "tui-serhi" repeated 5 times. Pairs foraging in trees and on the ground or brushes. Inland. Large deep cup nest in small tree, October-November Goyas ^159 .
