12.5 cm. Orange crown bordered by a black stripe. Whitish superciliary. Eyestripe gray. Upperside olive green. Underside yellow. <NJuvenile head and upper parts brown-olive, mottled yellowish on lores and ear coverts. Wing feathers tipped brownish forming two wingbars. Underneath buff-olive becoming yellowish on the belly. Calls, a low "chuk", a high "tsik". Song a series of 5-6 melodic whistles vocalizations 1-3 . Forages at mid level of trees and in underbrush, often in mixed flocks. Common in primary and secondary rain forest, open forest, coffee plantations, swamp forest and forest edge. Throughout. Most common in coastal areas. Below 1800 meters Willis and Oniki ^119 consider the subspecies /auricapillus of Southeast Brazil a species distinct from /culicivorus . 6478 Calls.
