11.5 cm. Male is glossy blue black. Belly chestnut. Yellow patch near the bend of the wing. <NThe female is dark olive above. Gray on the nape. Underparts gray with olive flanks and a rufous crissum. Calls raspy "zee zee zee zee zee" vocalizations 2 and 3 . A probable song can be heard on vocalization 1. Song has imitations of other species ^121 . Forages in the upper to mid levels of tall trees in pairs for fruits, flowers and insects. Flocks rarely join mixed species groups. Rio de Janeiro January, Paraguay August ^159 . Regularly seen within primary and tall secondary rain forest and borders of forest. Seems to wander elevationally. Throughout, in Estado S<C4>o Paulo found at<8E>Pariquera Acu, Barra do Ribeira, Icapara, Boraceia, Serra da Cantareira, Guaratuba, PE Carlos Botelho, PE Jacupiranga ^119 , Serra Bocaina Remold, unpubl. . In Estado Rio de Janeiro observed in the<8E>Serra Mantiqueira, Serra dos Org<C4>os, Nova Friburgo. Due to deforestation has disappeared from the interior. To 1300 meters ^133 .
