12 cm. Male has a black hood contrasting strongly with a yellow neck and underparts. Olive back. Yellow rump. Mantle with dark spots. Wings black with two yellow bars, white edges on tertials. Tail feathers black with white edging. <NThe female has no black hood, and is olive brown with darker streaks above. Yellow rump. Yellow green below, the belly lighter. Call high "tweet" and "tweet-tsi". A good song is on ^37 . Often in small groups. Forages in trees, shrubs, thistles, and on the ground Regularly seen in open areas with trees, gardens, parks, hedgerows and brushy borders of fields, forest edge.
