Plush-crested Jay

35.5 cm. Slightly elongated crown feathers stiff and plush-like. Head, throat and upper chest black with light blue moustache marks on the cheek. Hindcrown and nape light blue. The rest of upper parts blue with a purple gloss. Chest, belly and undertail feathers white. Tail bluish black, tipped white. Iris yellow. Forages in small noisy groups in tree crowns. Not shy. October-early December. Relatively common in woodland and forest border, sometimes venturing out into agricultural areas, etc. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo widely distributed in the interior e.g.<8E>Mogi Guacu , closer to the coastal regions recorded from<8E>Itarar<CA>, the Itu-<8E>Sorocaba<8E> area west of S<C4>o Paulo city ^40 , Itapeva ^119 , not uncommon around<8E>Campos do Jord<C4>o<8E>.
