38 cm. Bluish purple with black head, throat and chest. A repeated "jear jear jear". A noisy conspicuous bird moving in groups through the crowns of trees. Early October ^147 . Generally uncommon, but locally common in open forest and forest edge, apparently most numerous where Araucaria occurs ^133 , e. g. near Itarar<CA> in the southern part of Estado S<C4>o Paulo. Southern part and coastal regions of Estado S<C4>o Paulo, Pariquera Acu, Barra do Ribeira, Icapara, Sete Barras, Cananeia, Ariri ^119 . Old records from Estado S<C4>o Paulo include<8E>Canaeia, Iguape, and on the Rio<8E>Juquia<8E> in the South ^40 . Up to 1000 meters 3100 Calls. Rio Escuro, near Ubatuba, 10<10>13<10>99.
