23 cm. Above gray-brown. Head and nape gray. Wings with rufous primaries. Throat streaked brown on white background. Breast light buff-gray. Belly whitish. Bill olive-yellow. Song simple phrases repeated several times, sometimes starting with a "dju dju" vocalizations 1-3 Call a rasping " wer wer wer" Vocalizations 4-6 . Alarm note "cha cha zit" or "zizit" ^143 . Feeds on ground, often under cover. Forages also in fruiting trees. A common breeder from October to January. Common inland in dry open forest habitat and gardens, near houses.
