23.5 cm. A straggler from the South. Above grayish brown with a rufous rump. Long superciliary white, gray eyestripe. Black wings with a white area from the shoulder extending into the secondaries which flashes in flight as a white field in the wing. White tail with black central tail feathers. Underparts white, the breast and flanks frequently washed rusty buff. Reported to be an outstanding singer ^133 . Forages on the ground and in trees and scrub. In central Argentina common in open woodland and scrubby areas. Extralimital, breeds in central and southern Argentina. Migrates north in winter to Bolivia and southern Brazil. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo reported as a rare winter visitor to coastal scrub, Porto Estada<8E>near Iguape, Guarau<8E>south of Peruibe, Maruja, Ilha do Cardoso ^119 , Boraceia Jeremy Minns, unpubl. .Mostly below 500 meters 1877 Call, Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Isla Verde, LNS 52484, recorded by T.
