12 cm. A common little brown bird. Buffy brown above, ligher below, Indicated light superciliary. Dark bars on wings and tail. <NJuveniles are indistinctly barred on back and chest. The song is a warble containing stacatto strophes as heard on all three vocalizations. Also a typical nasal "jeeyah" ^133 . Forages in dense vegetation near the ground, but frequently is quite tame and shows up in the open, especially if its curiosity is aroused by squishing etc. Nest is in a variety of cavities, in hollow logs, in walls of houses and under roofs, bridges etc. August-February. Multiple broods. Ubiquitous, inhabits a number of open, more or less degraded habitats containing dense low vegetation, borders of woodland, eucalyptus groves, borders of swamps, secondary scrub, roadside, gardens, plantations, city parks.
