The account

Description

15.5 cm. Upper side rufous brown with crown and nape more grayish. Wings not banded. Superciliary stripe white. Ear covers striped white on black background. Malar stripe black. Neck sides and throat white. Sides of chest light grayish brown. Sides of belly light buff brown. Tail with black bands.

How the map was made

The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.

The discs carried location maps only; none shows a distribution or range.

Voice

Strophes consist of several single notes that are repeated several times (vocalization #1 and #2). Call "jeeyr' is sometimes incorporated into the song (¹³³).

Behavior

A skulker low in dense vegetation.

Habitat and status

Quite common in dense vegetation of swamps or bamboo thickets at borders of forests and woodland, not in the rainforest itself.

Distribution

Old records are from Rio Muriae and Olalla in Estado Rio de Janeiro (⁴⁰). To be expected to occur in suitable habitat elsewhere in Estado Rio de Janeiro.
