Correndera Pipit

15 cm. Back strongly streaked black and ochraceous brown with two white stripes running down on either side of the mantle. Tail dark grey, the outer tail feathers white. Buffy below with strong black streaking across chest and on the flanks. The complex flight song is heard on vocalization 1. It is delivered while ascending, descending or hovering as a constantly repeated phrase. Forages on the ground for insects. The area closest to Estado S<C4>o Paulo where this species breeds is probably the coastal belt of Rio Grande do Sul. June-December. A fall and winter migrant. Might be expected to show up in grassland and drier swampy areas, grassy dunes or in grass land behind dunes. Coastal Estado S<C4>o Paulo.
