Bank Swallow

12 cm. A rare migrant from Northern hemisphere. Grayish brown above, below whitish with diagnostic brown chest band. Tail slightly forked. Wings dark brown. Usually a rolling one or two syllable "drrrt" as in vocalization 1. The rapid sequence of short calls in vocalizations in 2 twittering and continuous chatter . Forages low over open country: forms large flocks, also with other swallow species: sleeps in reed beds of swamps and lakes in large numbers. Breeds in the Northern hemisphere, arrives in Brazil in September. Few records. Open areas, farms. Winters south to central Brazil. One found near<8E>Iguape December 18, 1981 and others near <8E>Sales Oliveira<8E>and<8E>Morro Agudo, north-east Estado de S<C4>o Paulo in March 1984 ^76 .
