12 cm. A small drab colored swallow of open country. Cinnamon superciliary and nuchal area. Buff on the throat and chest. Black cap. Grayish brown above, with darker wings and tail. Belly white. Rump brownish-white. Call difficult to distinguish from call of other species of this genus vocalization 1 . Seems to be rather silent. Flies low in pairs or small groups, in the non-breeding season sometimes in larger groups and associated with other swallow species. Breeder in Southeast Brazil. Nests in holes of banks ^88 . September-November. Uncommon, forages over open country. sometimes over forest. Interior of Estado S<C4>o Paulo, rare at the coast. There is one record for Estado Rio de Janeiro from<8E>Resende near<8E>Itatiaia, May 23, 1953 ^53 . Below 1600 meters 4507 Serra da Canastra, October 30, 2002. Recorded by Jeremy Minns.
