White-thighed Swallow

11.5 cm. A small, very dark swallow of humid forest. Above brownish gray with a greenish gloss. Rump grayish brown. Below ashy brownish-grey, crissum black. Call is a "zeet-zeet". Flies in pairs or small groups over open areas and water adjacent to dense forest and at forest edge. They feed also above the forest canopy. They perch on bare branches of trees. Breeding season in Southeast Brazil not known. Breeds in woodpecker holes and in banks of rivers. A bird associated with humid rain forest. Up to 500 meters in primary and old secondary forest. ^140 .
