White-winged Swallow

13.5 cm. A medium sized swallow with shining green blue upperparts, white underparts and rump and a white wing patch formed by the white margins of the greater wing coverts, tertials and secondaries. Flanks grayish. Slightly forked tail and wings black. The sexes are similar but the female has less white in the wings. "Chee-chee calls vocalization 1-4 . In small groups flies low over water or perches on sticks and other objects close to the water. Nests in tree holes, houses, crevices of walls, cliffs. Breeds in Southeast Brazil from September to April. Usually quite common near lakes and rivers,adjacent forest and open areas. Throughout but not found south of S<C4>o Paulo near the coast.
