13 cm. Male has a black crown, a white area before the eye and a yellow eye ring. Sides of head and collar whitish-gray. Back olive-green. Wings and tail dusky. Throat whitish. A yellow band across the breast. Belly white with buff tinge. <NFemale is similar, but has an olive crown and chestnut lesser wing coverts. Has a variety of calls. Typical is a "tadedededede de" with the last syllable emphasized, somewhat reminiscent of the call of /Rhyptipterna simplex : also a "retetetetete..": a fast ascending series of whistles which drop in pitch at the end "du de de di di dedede". A wavering "wiuuuu" and a repeated "tek dui" according to E.O. Willis is probably produced by females or young. Usually forages in the canopy of large trees by gleaning leaves ^44 . Uncommon in gallery forest, edge of tall primary or mature secondary forest. Also in dryer inland forests and clearings with tall trees. Throughout.
