White-headed Marsh-Tyrant

11 cm. A striking looking stocky flycatcher of marshes. Bill black, the mandible with a yellow base. Crested, with a white head and black body, the male is unmistakable. <NFemale is light grayish-brown above with a white front of head. Wings and tail black. Below white with a grayish belly. Call a high "zii" repeated every 5 seconds or so. Perches in reeds and cattails in marshes. Performs aerial hawks and perch to ground sallies. Regularly seen in marshes and grasslands Throughout.
