11 cm. Chocolate brown above with a hidden yellow coronal patch. Wings blackish with two broad buff bars. Grayish-white below with strong dark brown streaks. Calls are ahigh "zit zik" and a lower "tchik". Dawn song is "weeeib", repeated frequently. Day song is "twi- dididididididi.......twi-dididididididi...." repeated frequently. Forages by enclosed perch hawking, sallying within dense vegetation ^74 . Also eats fruits. Usually quite inconspicuous and remains hidden within vegetation. Nest is an open cup ^106 . A widespread flycatcher of open country. Quite common in scrubby and bushy overgrown fields and hedges, slopes, woodland borders and above the tree line in the mountains.
