Description
13 cm. An aberrant terrestrial flycatcher of the forest interior. Bill black, mandible flesh colored. Above olive-brown. Wings olive-brown without bars. Below creamy white with a breast band of thick black streaks. Underwing coverts white. Feet pinkish white.

How the map was made
The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.

Song is a 'zirr wi zirr wi pi di', frequently repeated. Call 'dleea' (30). Often betrays its presence by bill snapping.
Behavior
On or near the ground of humid forest. Walks fast on the ground like a water thrush and forages by upward striking. Not in mixed flocks.
Breeding
Nest of Corythopis is an oven-shaped construction with side entrance located on the ground (107).
Habitat and status
Common in primary and secondary forests of the interior of São Paulo State and Minas Gerais. Also present in humid forest close to the coast in Rio de Janeiro State.
Distribution
Interior forests of São Paulo State (Itapura, Franca, Iutuverava, Itatiba, Valpariso, Patrocinio Paulista) and Minas Gerais (Ibitipoca), but apparently rare or not present in the coastal areas. Might well occur in suitable habitat closer to the coast. Surprisingly the species is present in humid secondary forest at the Reserva Ecológica Guapiacú in the foothills of the Serra das Orgãos northeast of Rio de Janeiro and well worth a visit. Mentioned for Serra dos Orgãos by Forrester. Up to 1000 meters (Ibitipoca, Minas Gerais).
