10 cm. Eye dark. Brownish-gray crown, rusty buff forehead and sides of face. Wings blackish with 2 buffy wing bars. Below gray, belly whitish. Tail blackish. Hard calls such as "tchit..... tchit....", "tchittuk" and "tuk tuk tuktuktuktuk" betray its presence. Forages in the lower stratum of scrub by upward striking. Emerges rarely from the tangles. A Tody-Flycatcher of the interior. Fairly common but local within underbrush of scrubby forest borders, dense thickets and gallery forest. Extralimital in Northern S<C4>o Paulo State,<8E>Itapura, S<C4>o Jeronimo, Lins<8E>etc ^40 . Might occur closer to the shore in suitable habitat.
