9 cm. Eye dark. Head rufous. Above olive-green. Wings dusky with light greenish edgings on the primaries and wing coverts, and chestnut edges to the tertiary flight feathers forming a patch. Upper throat rufous with white streaks. Lower throat white. Chest flammulated gray. Belly white. Tail blackish, notched and with a white subterminal band. Call is a characteristic "tchididik" with emphasis on the first syllable. Also a "tik-tirrr" and variations thereof. Found in the lower stratum of bushes and trees foraging by upward striking. Locally relatively common near borders of primary and secondary forest, woodland, secondary scrubby vegetation and thickets. Not particularly requiring bamboo growth, but we found it in bamboo thickets well within primary rain forest on the Corisco Trail at Picinguaba near Ubatuba see picture which might be the original habitat. This species is listed as "endangered", because it inhabits a very small range and the population is fragmented ^103 . The Serra do Mar from<8E>Ubatuba<8E>to<8E>Rio de Janeiro<8E>.
