10 cm. Neck and upper head greenish with a brownish tone: mantle olive green: Wings black with broad pale yellow edgings on tertials and two narrow buffy olive wing bars: orbital area and cheeks buffy yellow with an ochraceous touch on throat and breast: breast indistinctly striped dark: belly clear yellow white. Distinctive is the tail which has distally broadened club-like outer feathers slightly longer than the rest of the tail feathers with whitish rims see Fig. 2 in ^137 . Call is a sequence of 12-14 loud zik sounds | "zik zik zik zik zik zik zik zik zik zik zik zik zik zik" . These sequences are given every 2 to 3 minutes. Moves around 0.5-2 meters above ground in dense forest. Forages by sally-gleaning. Unknown from Estado S<C4>o Paulo: in Parana and Santa Catarina rain forest and coastal scrubby forest. To 150 meters ^137 . Location known to be closest to our area is near Guaratuba, Parana. To be looked for in Southeastern Estado S<C4>o Paulo e.g., Cananeia, Itapirangui, Ariri, in forest. /Rhynchocyclus olivaceus is recorded from Estado Rio de Janeiro near Registro do Sai ^40 . I am not aware of recent observations and have therefore not included this species here.
